About university-wide courses
As part of university-wide courses, students can take courses in another field of study by selecting courses offered in both Polish and English. Students may enroll in two extra-curricular courses per year at no additional cost (in accordance with Resolution No. 40 of the UMK Senate dated June 22, 2021).
Pursuant to § 29(1) of the NCU Academic Regulations, upon a student’s request submitted within 14 days of the start of the academic year or semester, the dean may grant credit for courses specified in the study plan—including university-wide courses—based on courses the student has completed at UMK or another institution, including a foreign one. A prerequisite for course credit is the determination that the learning outcomes of these courses are equivalent.
Competency Blocks
A new addition to the program is competency blocks—sets of courses consisting of four to six subjects—the successful completion of which demonstrates that students have acquired key interpersonal, social, personal, and digital competencies sought after in the job market. These blocks allow students to develop their individual aptitudes and strengthen the areas that are most useful in the job market. Completion of a competency block will be confirmed by a certificate issued even before graduation. Students may complete more than one competency block and thus earn more than one certificate. The blocks are not strictly tied to specific majors and are open to students from all programs offered at UMK. Courses offered as part of the competency blocks may also be taken as individual university-wide courses; enrolling in some of these courses does not require completion of the entire block.
