The decree of the Council of Ministers of 24 August 1945 establishing Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, approved by the Presidium of the National Council on 11 September, marked the culmination of nearly 550 years of efforts to establish a higher education institution in the Pomeranian region.
Today, NCU is the largest university in Northern Poland and one of the country’s leading academic institutions. Across its two academic cities, the University comprises 16 faculties (13 in Toruń and 3 in Bydgoszcz). The NCU community includes more than 18,000 students, including over 1,000 international students, and approximately 4,600 staff members.
