NCU organization

Nicolaus Copernicus University is located in two cities Torun and Bydgoszcz. The campus in Torun consists of 13 Faculties, while the campus in Bydgoszcz, Collegium Medicum, comprises of 3 Faculties. Each of the campuses has its own administration and authorities.

Student card

ID cards for degree-seeking students are distributed by the faculties during academic year openings or are available at the dean’s office of the faculty to pick up.

If you have successfully uploaded your photo in the admission system and paid the ID fee in the amount of 22 PLN, you will receive the ID automatically. If you came later and have not paid the fee, the process may be longer.

The payment of 22 PLN is required from all the students regardless of their home country.

Your student ID will not only confirm your affiliation to  NCU, but will serve as a library card and a public transportation city card.

It will give you the possibility to benefit from a variety of special offers, including a 50% discount on public transport in Toruń. To be eligible for a discount, make sure your ID is valid and you have it on you at all times.

Please be aware that the public transport discount is valid for BA/MA students under 26 years of age.

Student email and Office 365 accounts

Universty integrated account ( for students and PhD students)

To access both internal IT systems at NCU and various external services you need an active student account.

How to set up a student account?

Office365 account

Please observe that for e-learning via Microsoft Office365 you will also need to set up a separate account in that service, but this can only be done using a utility web page provided by NCU after you have created the local NCU account.

STEP 1:

Go to Office365 Portal and provide your Microsoft 365 identifier (name.surname@o365.stud.umk.pl) and one-time password you received by email: name.surname@stud.umk.pl

STEP 2:

You will be forced to setup a new password for your Microsoft 365 account. You have to enter the one-time password in the field "old password" and a new password in the two following fields.

STEP 3:

After successfully changing your one-time password, you can use Microsoft 365 services. Next time, just go to the website Office365 Portal.

E-learning

During your studies, you need to have access to other e-learning platforms. Please learn about them NCU e-learning platforms .

USOS system ( oath, registration for courses)

USOS (University Study-Oriented System) is an IT system in which each student has their own account.

In USOS you can register for your core programme courses (so-called “przedmioty kierunkowe”), check your marks, or apply for scholarships

In USOS you can register for your core courses. It’s always a good idea to check your detailed study programme at your Faculty’s website.

As soon as you determine what courses you would like to take, you can create a timetable of your schedule. Please note, that registration rules may differ across all faculties/institutes.

You are strongly advised to check with your faculty before you start registering for your courses (e.g. you will be automatically assigned to some courses while for some of them you will have to register on the USOSweb, which is a web interface of USOS).

Learning languages: Polish courses / other languages

NCU has its own Centre of Polish Language and Culture for Foreigners which offers wide range of Polish language courses, from 1-1 lessons to one-year intensive polish language course. What is more Centre organizes also summer camps and Polish language exams.

NCU International Point

International Point at Copernican Integration Centre (in Polish: KOI) is a place where you can get advise or help in matters such as registering your stay in Poland, obtaining PESEL numer, accommodation, health insurance, opening bank account and many more.

You will also find there information about University in general, student’s life, as well as, cultural events taking place at NCU and in the city of Torun.

Ask about Student Starter Discount Pack  - every year different discount on services, fod, cultural events, museums, etc. are offered for NCU students. You can also check the offer of discounts online by choosing "Toruń" from the list of available cities.

Transportation

Public transport

Students up to 26 years of age are entitled to a 50% discount on city transport fares. Tickets can be purchased at ticket machines located in some transport vehicles as well as at ticket machines at the stop at Plac Rapacki. You can also pay for the ride using the MoBILET application.

Toruń City Card - "Jo' City Card

The “JO” city card gives you:

  • The ability to purchase electronic tickets for public transportation in Toruń
  • The ability to pay for parking in all Paid Parking Zones in Toruń – only via the app
  • The ability to pay for tickets using a virtual wallet

Culture and sport

From cultural attractions to sports facilities, Toruń is a city with plenty of places to spend your free time. For sports enthusiasts, Toruń offers tennis courts, an ice rink, a bowling alley, city bikes and several swimming pools. If you are looking for entertainment, there are many cinemas, theatres and concert halls. Toruń also hosts regular cultural events such as film festivals, the Culture and Art Festival and the City Days.

Bydgoszcz City Card

Bydgoszcz City Card enables Bydgoszcz inhabitants to use various municipal services , including public transport. It looks like an ATM card. It is a contactless card, which means that in order to use it (buy a ticket or check ticket validity), you need to bring it to a deciphering device (a ticket vending machine or a terminal at the ticket sales point).
