Do you need visa?
If you come from an EU/EFTA member country, United Kingdom or visa- free country (check visa free countries here). A valid travel document entitles you to enter Poland.
If you come from another country, you are required to obtain a Polish visa before your arrival, contact the Polish Consulate or Embassy in your country of residence (check the contact details here- https://www.gov.pl/web/diplomacy/polands-missions-abroad )
Which visa do you need?
- Schengen Visa (visa type C) – is issued when the planned stay on the territory of the Schengen area is maximum 90 days within each 180-day period. Calculator of travel days remaining under a Schengen short-stay visa
- National visa (visa type D) – entitles to entry and a continuous stay in the territory of Poland or to several consecutive stays which jointly last longer than 90 days, the period of validity of a national visa cannot exceed 1 year. Also permits to travel in the territory of other Schengen Area Member States for up to 90 days during a 180-day period, during the validity period of the visa.
Types of visas:
- student visa – (for students or PhD candidates) requires, among other things, document issued by the University confirming enrollment or continuation of studies
- visa for the purpose of conducting scientific research or development activities – a hosting agreement/contract has to be signed between the researcher and the research institution in Poland authorised by the Ministry of Interior and Administration for the purpose of hosting foreign scientists;
- visa for the purpose of work –the researcher does not need a signed agreement/contract, only a promise of employment/ a letter from the host university.
How to apply?
- Find the nearest Polish consulate or embassy
- Set up a visa appointment.
- Collect the required documents .
- Submit the application in person at the Polish embassy or consulate.
- Attend the visa interview.
- Wait for the decision. The duration of the visa procedure should not be longer than 15 days
Visa interview
During a visa interview you can be asked just about anything connected with the purpose of your intended stay, Poland as a state, Toruń and Bydgoszcz respectively and details about the university. Please prepare your documents carefully and be ready to ace the interview.
Health insurance
You will be asked to present a medical travel insurance whose coverage amounts to not less than EUR 30,000. Please use the list of insurers provided here.

Accommodation
On-Campus accommodation
University operates in two towns- there are 2 campuses - Toruń and Bydgoszcz
Application for accommodation for 1st year students should be made via IRK Admission System upon qualification.
PhD candidates are asked to contact their supervisors or their doctoral school office for assistance. The application for continuation is done via Student Houses administration

Off-campus accommodation
If you choose an off-campus accommodation, you should make sure that a proper lease contract is signed. You can live in a private dorm, shared apartment or rent a flat on your own. Cost varies depends on standard and location. Websites like Otodom and OLX are useful for housing searches. Consider proximity to work or study, public transportation, and local amenities when choosing your accommodation. Both Torun and Bydgoszcz are safe towns. We advise you to find an estate agency to assist you if you are interested in a flat or shared accommodation. They can act as your proxy and carry out all the formalities for you.

Academic guidance
Mobility coordinators are academic staff who assist you in academic matters before and during your stay. You can consult them on course selection as well as other course-related matters. If you are an exchange student, they will also sign your Learning Agreement.
