Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń honors the most distinguished members of its community by awarding them the special distinctions Convallaria Copernicana and Laurus Aesculapii. Individuals who have made outstanding contributions to academic, cultural, or social life are awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of Nicolaus Copernicus University, while professors with outstanding academic achievements who retired in the last academic year are awarded the title of Honorary Professor of Nicolaus Copernicus University.
