The Making of the Humanities conferences, held under the auspices of the Society for the History of the Humanities, unite scholars studying the histories of disciplines from archaeology and philology to media and musicology. The theme “The Structure of Humanistic Revolutions” critically examines how transformations in the humanities have been conceptualized, contested, and institutionalized—from the Renaissance to posthumanism—drawing inspiration from Thomas Kuhn while emphasizing the distinct, culturally embedded nature of change in humanistic knowledge.
