2018-05-24

Prof. Edward Norman Dancer from the University of Sydney, the distinguished Australian mathematician was awarded with the J.P. Schauder Medal for 2017. The awarding ceremony took place on May 22nd, 2018 during the Special Nonlinear Analysis Workshops held at the NCU Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science.

The medal was awarded in recognition of the laureate's outstanding achievements in the field of non-linear analysis, the theory of differential equations and their applications.

This outstanding mathematical award was established by the J. P. Schauder Non-Linear Research Centre at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, headed by Prof. dr habil. Wojciech Kryszewski, head of the Section of Nonlinear Mathematical Analysis and Topology. The Medal is awarded every two years for scientific achievements and contribution to nonlinear analysis and its applications. The winner of the prize is chosen from among candidates proposed by the councils of mathematical units and individuals with the academic title of professor of mathematics. This year, the Medal was awarded for the third time. So far, the laureates of the J. S. Schauder Medal were: Prof. Jean Mawhin in 2012, and Prof. Paul Rabinowitz in 2014.

The awarding ceremony was held on Tuesday, May 22nd at 10:00 at the seat of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science ( ul. Chopina 12/18 in Toruń). The eulogy was given by Prof. Thomas Bartsch from Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen (Germany).
