NCU in the global ranking
2015-09-21
It is the third time the Nicolaus Copernicus University has been listed in the QS World University Ranking which comprises 4% of the best higher education schools in the world.
There are six Polish universities in the ranking: the University of Warsaw at 344th place, the Jagiellonian University (in the 411-420 ranking group), the Warsaw University of Technology (in the 651-700 ranking group), the University of Łódź, the University of Wrocław, and our University in the 700+ ranking group.
There are six criteria considered in the raking. These are: lecturers' opinion (40% of the total assessment), employers' opinion (10%), the ratio of the number of students to the number of lecturers (20%), the so-called research papers citation index (20%), the percentage of foreign lecturers (5%), and the percentage of overseas students (5%). The NCU came out really well in the ratio of the number of students to the number of lecturers category (the index of 42.4%). We take the 393rd place, which gives us the second place in Poland, just after the Jagiellonian University (at the 314th place). The creators of the ranking consider this criterion an indicator of educational process quality and comfort, which provides an opportunity for a student to have an individual contact with a lecturer.
The QS ranking has been produced since 2004 by the Quacquarelli Symonds orgainsation which focuses on higher education. The most important objective of the ranking is to provide students with a rational choice of the universities and promote studying outside the native country. See the full QS World ranking here.
