The history of human and cat relationships began 10,000 years ago. Its origins, however, still remain a mystery mainly due to scarcity of research material. Gaps in our knowledge in the subject are successfully filled by a group of researchers from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. An article discussing the topic has recently been published in PNAS, a prestigious official journal of the National Academy of Sciences. The first author is Dr Magdalena Krajcarz who has made an attempt to find ancestors of domestic cats in Neolithic Central Europe.

Almost 300 wood samples from 18 posts, of total weight of 26 kg have been collected in Mustang by Barbara Gmińska-Nowak, M.A. from the Faculty of Fine Arts, UMK. Due to them, she compiled the first for the region standard chronology of Himalayan pine and established what type of wood the first buildings in that region were constructed from.

A special distinction of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń - Convallaria Copernicana will be awarded to the eminent physicist Professor Józef Szudy during the University Day.

Professor Tomaso Poggio from the Center for Brains, Minds and Machines, located at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is the laureate of the first edition of the International Scientific Award "Ratio et Spes", established jointly by the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and the Joseph Ratzinger-Benedict XVI Vatican Foundation.

On February 19th, the day of the birthday of its patron, the Nicolaus Copernicus University celebrated the University Day. On that day, state and university awards were presented, as well as the titles of the NCU Honorary Professor and Ambassador. The celebrations were accompanied by promotions of new habilitated doctors and doctors.

The winners of the Debuts and Mobility contests were selected as part of the Excellence Initiative - Research University project.

Four new Emerging Fields have been selected as part of the Excellence Initiative - Research University contest. Altogether 13 proposals meeting formal requirements were submitted. All applications were subject to substantive evaluation by the relevant scientific councils of the areas of science.

On January 17^th, 2020, the second SUITMA international scientific-educational seminar was organized in Toruń, Poland by dr hab. Przemysław Charzyński, prof. NCU, dr hab. Piotr Hulisz, prof. Ewelina Kołakowska, a PhD student at the NCU Faculty of Fine Arts is becoming more and more acknowledged in China.

From 7 to 11 January 2020, a delegation from King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) in Bangkok visited the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Informatics. This was the second visit of the representatives of the University of Technology Thonburi from Thailand to the Nicolaus Copernicus University.

The Polish-German team of physicists and quantum chemists, coordinated by dr. Karolina Słowik from the Institute of Physics of the Nicolaus Copernicus University, pointed to a new possibility of extending the lifetime of atomic systems in the environment of nanoantennas. The results of the research were presented in an article published in Nature Communications.

The star BD+14 4559 and its planet discovered by a team of scientists from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń have their official names: Solaris and Pirx.

Communication in a Multicultural Environment is the title of an international meeting of university employees, which began on December 12th at the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management of the Nicolaus Copernicus University.

Professor Andrzej Sokala from the Faculty of Law and Administration officially announced his candidacy in the election of the Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus University for the term of office 2020-2024.

During the 140th session of the General Assembly of the Polish Academy of Sciences on 5 December 2019, Prof. Andrzej Skowroński and Prof. Józef Szudy were elected to the prestigious group of real members of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In more than 70 years of history of the Nicolaus Copernicus University, only 7 professors permanently associated with the Nicolaus Copernicus University were honored with the real membership of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

From 18 to 20 November 2019, the NCU Faculty of Earth Sciences and Spatial Management was visited by the researchers from the National Central University in Taiwan. The meeting was organized by the Polar Research Centre to discuss cooperation in the field of polar research based on the NCU Polar Station on Spitsbergen.

Dr Mateusz Borkowski from the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Informatics received the Stefan Pieńkowski Scientific Award of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS). The award is granted annually by the Polish Academy of Sciences for significant scientific achievements in Physics.

Prof. dr. habil. Jacek Manitius was nominated for the position of Vice-Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus University for Collegium Medicum. The new vice-rector takes office on 1 December.Prof. Manitius stands in for Prof. dr. habil. Grażyna Odrowąż-Sypniewska, who is retiring.

On the 8 of November Nicolaus Copernicus University had the pleasure to host guests from Beijing Open University. NCU and BJOU have signed an agreement of cooperation.

The National Agency for Academic Exchange awarded the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń PLN 1,175,680 for the implementation of the project "PROM - International Scholarship Exchange for Doctoral Students and Academic Staff".

The innovative project Share Your Soils (SYStem) prepared by the researchers of the Faculty of Earth Sciences of the Nicolaus Copernicus University received EUR 352,761 in funding under the Erasmus+ Action 2. Strategic Partnerships competition.

A team of researchers from the Department of Underwater Archaeology of the Nicolaus Copernicus University together with researchers from the Jagiellonian, Warsaw and Gdańsk Universities conduct research at the bottom of the Lednica Lake. It is a strategic point on the historical map of Poland, as the first baptisms of dignitaries from the surroundings of Mieszko I may have taken place in this area.

The 25th anniversary of inauguration of the 32-metre radio telescope of Nicolaus Copernicus University Centre for Astronomy in Piwnice near Toruń will be celebrated in October 2019. During that quarter-century, this remarkable instrument - the largest of this kind in Poland - made a number of discoveries. Owing to installation of a system for receiving radio waves in the frequency range from 8 to 16 GHz (X-band), new possibilities to explore the Universe open up for the telescope now. So far, successful initial test observations using the new system have been performed.

An international, interdisciplinary summer school for doctoral students "Toruń Astrophysics, Spectroscopy and Quantum Chemistry School" (TASQ) is held at the NCU Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Informatics from 1st to 12th July.

118 people from 17 countries will study as part of the Erasmus+ programme at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in the second semester of the 2018/2019 academic year.

An international team of more than 200 astronomers from 18 countries has published the first phase of a major new radio sky survey at unprecedented sensitivity using the Low Frequency Array (LOFAR) telescope. Dr hab. Magdalena Kunert-Bajraszewska and Phd student Carole Roskowiński from Nicolaus Copernicus University take part in this project.

Two PhD students in archaeology - Mateusz Sosnowski (Institute of Archaeology, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń) and Jerzy Czerniec (Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology, Polish Academy of Sciences, NCU graduate) - made an extraordinary discovery in the Tuchola Forest. Thanks to the use of innovative methods of spatial analysis of the Digital Terrain Model, they were able to observe relics of a human settlement, preserved on the surface of the forest, dating from about 2 thousand years ago.

- Our most important goal is to make the Nicolaus Copernicus University a research university at the European level - said Prof. dr habil. Andrzej Tretyn, NCU Rector, during the University Day, which was celebrated on February 19, on the day of his patron's birthday.

Dr Michio Kaku, the great American theoretician of physics, promoter of science and futurologist will be visiting in Toruń at the invitation of the Polish National Foundation. On February 19th, on the 546th anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus, dr Kaku will give a lecture at the Cultural and Congress Centre Jordanki. He will also visit the NCU Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Informatics.

At the turn of the year new editions of world university rankings confirmed the leading position and the stable international reputation of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń among Polish universities.

On January 21st the evaluation survey was launched in the USOS system for the assessment of courses run at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in the winter semester of the 2018/2019 academic year.

On July 1-12, 2019, the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy, and Informatics of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń will host an interdisciplinary summer school for PhD students entitled “The Toruń Astrophysics, Spectroscopy and Quantum Chemistry school” (TASQ). The final call for the PROM project was released on Janury 9th, 2019. The funding for the project is provided by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange.

Katarzyna Zillmann continues to be the best. On 15th September 2018, a rower from the Nicolaus Copernicus University won the gold medal in the women’s quadruple sculls during the World Championships organized in Bulgarian Plovdiv.

The Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń confirmed its presence in the world elite of higher education schools. It is listed in the so-called Shanghai ranking (Academic Ranking of World Universities - AGWU). Thus, the NCU is classified in all the major world rankings of higher education schools (in addition to the ARWU, these are: the QS World University Rankings and Times Higher Education World University Ranking).

From Wednesday, 22nd August 2018, the Nicolaus Copernicus University hosts almost 30 Erasmus graduates from the 2008/09 academic year. The former NCU students were from 10 countries, among them from France, Spain, Germany, Italy and Belgium.

Dr Agata Karska from the NCU Centre for Astronomy is among 13 laureates of the fifth competition of the Foundation for Polish Science in the FIRST TEAM programme. The Toruń researcher will receive PLN 2 million to form a research team. 131 scientists have competed in the competition.

Dr hab. Piotr Żuchowski, NCU Prof. from the Institute of Physics at the Nicolaus Copernicus University is a member of an international team of scientists who conducted groundbreaking research allowing to build molecules consisting of rubidium and strontium atoms at the temperature of a one-millionth degree Celsius above absolute zero. The results of these studies were published on June 11, 2018 in the prestigious journal Nature Physics.

Professor Tetsuro Matsuzawa from Japan is giving a lecture at the Department of Psychology on Tuesday, May 29th. The honourable guest is the world-renowned primatologist, one of the most prominent contemporary psychologists. He has been researching the behavior of chimps for over 40 years. The lecture in Toruń will be the only opportunity -to listen to a researcher from Kyoto University in Poland.

Prof. Edward Norman Dancer from the University of Sydney, the distinguished Australian mathematician was awarded with the J.P. Schauder Medal for 2017. The awarding ceremony took place on May 22nd, 2018 during the Special Nonlinear Analysis Workshops held at the NCU Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science.

Ceremonial handing over of books from the Renmin University in Bejing for the Center of Chinese Language and Culture at the Nicolaus Copernicus University was held at Collegium Maximum on May 20th, 2018.

The NCU Institute of Physics will, on 21-24 June 2018, host participants of a special event: the 50th Symposium on Mathematical Physics. For half a century the scientific conference, initiated by Prof. dr. habil. Roman S. Ingarden, has attracted the attention of physicists from around the world, and has become the hallmark of the Toruń school of mathematical physics. The annual Symposium has been held continuously since 1969.

The inventions of the Nicolaus Copernicus University researchers were recognised at the 117th International Exhibition of Inventiveness "Concours Lépine 2018" in Paris. 583 innovative solutions from several countries around the world participated in the competition, among others from France, China, Taiwan, Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Dr Magdalena Lewicka, Head of the NCU Centre for Arabic Language and Culture was appointed a member of the Board of the International Association of Academic Arabic Centers (Al-Ǧam'iyya ad-Duvaliyya li-Aqsām al-'Arabiyya wa-Ādabihā). A researcher from the Faculty of Languages became a representative of the European centers for Arabic studies for the term 2018-2020.

The exclusive statuette of the HR Excellence in Research was given to the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Brussels on April 19th, 2018. The award was collected by Lucyna Kejna, Head of the Office of International Research Projects.

"Time and space" will be the leading theme of the 18th Toruń Science and Art Festival, which will run from 20 to 24 April. The programme of this year's edition includes 130 events from over 30 fields: workshops, shows, outdoor events, discussions and concerts.

The Evolang Congress, i.e. 12th International Conference on the Evolution of Language will be held in Toruń from 16 to 19 April. The symposium is one of the more important humanistic events of this year in Poland. Biological and cultural sources of language will be discussed by scientists from six continents.

Dr engineer Mateusz Borkowski from the NCU Institute of Physics is the author of the article Optical Lattice Clocks with Weakly Bound Molecules, which appeared in the pages of the prestigious Physical Review Letters. The scientist from the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Informatics proposes a new type of an optical clock, in which ultra-cold weakly bound molecules would be used as a time pattern instead of atoms.

106 foreign students of the Erasmus+ programme start their studies at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in the summer semester of the academic year 2017/2018. On February 22nd, the Orientation Week starts. It is organized by the International Cooperation Department in cooperation with the Toruń NCU Erasmus Student Network.

Dr Sebastian Mikołajczak from the Section of Sculpture of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Nicolaus Copernicus University has achieved another success. The artist from Toruń designed a collectible coin dedicated to Jonathan Swift. The coin was issued by the Central Bank of Ireland.

The Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management of the Nicolaus Copernicus University is ranked among the top five Polish business schools in the Eduniversal Business Schools list. The Faculty was also awarded with three (in five-scale) Palmes of Excellence.

More than a hundred rectors will come to Toruń to talk about the draft of the new Law on Higher Education. It is the first time the Nicolaus Copernicus University is hosting the meeting of the Presidium and the Plenary Assembly of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools of Poland.

The university-affiliated company Nano-implant received PLN 2.4 million for clinical trials of 3D-produced, personalized implants. The company was co-founded by the staff of the NCU Faculty of Chemistry.

The NCU has prepared a wide range of attractions for this year's "Toruń Researchers’ Night”, which will be held on 29th September in Centrum Nowoczesności Młyn Wiedzy. These attractions include among others: the University tent "Journey to the interior", archaeological and astronomical shows, an experiment with the so-called Pascal's barrel, meetings with researchers devoted to “conscience in science”.

The creators of Neurodio, an academic start-up company co-created by the NCU staff presented the game Kalkulilo to Prince William and his wife Kate. This therapeutic game has been developed on grounds of the research conducted by the NCU Interdisciplinary Centre of Modern Technologies and trains mathematical skills in children.

The Nicolaus Copernicus University moved up by one place in the Ranking of Higher Education Schools organised by the “Perspektywy” magazine. Mgr inż. Maja Górecka-Wolniewicz and dr Tomasz Wolniewicz from the NCU Information and Communication Centre have been honored with the prestigious GÉANT Community Award.

Students and doctoral students of the Nicolauc Copernicus University can apply for the Santander Universidades scholarship by May 31st. The Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń moved up in the CWTS Leiden Ranking, which examines scientific strength of the university on the basis of scientific publications and their impact upon research development around the world. This year the NCU took the 703rd place in the world (moving up by 39 places as compared to last year’s edition).

Prof. dr habil. Andrzej Tretyn, NCU Rector signed a cooperation agreement between the Nicolaus Copernicus University and the Beijing International Studies University (BISU) in Beijing, China.

Prof. dr. habil. Marek Polasik from the Section of Atomic Spectroscopy at the NCU Faculty of Chemistry is supervising unique interdisciplinary theoretical research on the design of optimal conditions for the first experimental observation of a new physical phenomenon, which is the process of nuclear excitation by electron capture (NEEC). This is a controlled release of energy stored in nuclear isomers, which were used in creating ultra-efficient nuclear batteries.

Prof. dr hab. Andrzej Tretyn, NCU Rector participated in the grand opening of the factory of the Boryszew Group (Boryszew Oberflächentechnik Deutschland GmbH) in Prenzlau on 19 April.

The meeting with Chinese culture opened the 17th edition of the Toruń Science and Art Festival in the NCU University Aula.

The official opening ceremony of the Polish-Chinese Centre for Tourism Research takes place at the NCU Faculty of Earth Sciences in Toruń on Thursday, 20th April 2017.

The Third Run with a Book will take place at the University on 14 May. The event is held as part of the National Library Week (8-15 May, 2017). The purpose of the event is to promote running as the simplest form of movement, and to popularize reading.

Dr hab. Katarzyna Słabkowska from the Department of Atomic Spectroscopy of the NCU Faculty of Chemistry is the head of a series of international research projects co-financed by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 program-Euratom.

On 19th February 2017 the Nicolaus Copernicus University celebrated the anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus, our Patron. On this day the titles of Honorary Professors and NCU Ambassadors, as well as state and university distinctions were awarded. University researchers also received the diplomas of doctor habilitated, and diplomas of doctor.

More than a hundred Erasmus+ students will start their studies in the spring semester at the NCU. Over the next week, most of them will participate in the Adaptation Week organized by International Programmes Office with the participation of the ESN NCU and Student Self-Government.

The first liver transplant in the region took place in the Department of Liver and General Surgery of the Antoni Jurasz University Hospital No. 1. in Bydgoszcz. The operation was performed by a 15-person team of surgeons, anesthesiologists and surgery nurses led by Maciej Slupski, MD, Ph.D.

The Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń reported a rise in the prestigious Ranking Web of Universities. Compared to the previous edition of the ranking, the NCU improved its position by 23 places (to the 682nd place), which gives it a 22nd place in Central and Eastern Europe, and 7th in Poland.

Dr hab. Wojciech Kujawski, NCU Prof. from the Faculty of Chemistry is the Polish Coordinator of the research project on "Innovative polymer membranes containing polymerizable ionic liquids," which will be carried out within the POLONIUM Programme together with the University of Rouen.

Dr. Eng. Peter Morzyński from the National Laboratory for Atomic Molecular and Optical Physics at the Institute of Physics, Nicolaus Copernicus University received a grant JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan awarded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).

The representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) will work together with the chemists from the Nicolaus Copernicus University within the WHO grant concerning the influence of freezing on the quality and properties of vaccines. They visited the NCU Faculty of Chemistry on 12th January.

The Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (CRASP) issued an appeal in relation to the acts of aggression towards foreigners studying in Poland.

On Tuesday 22nd November 2016 the Tolerance Match for the Cup of the Mayor of the City of Toruń took place.

The National Congress of Science Conference “The development of the humanities. What and how to change social sciences and the humanities in Poland? "was held at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń on 24 and 25 November 2016.

A training for mentors of foreign students studying at the NCU was held on 15th November 2016. The event was attended by 54 students and closed the additional autumn recruitment.

The Nicolaus Copernicus University has entered the US News Best Global Universities ranking for the first time. The ranking lists 1000 best universities from 65 countries.

In connection with the recent attack on students from Turkey, the NCU International Programmes Office organized a meeting for foreign Erasmus students with the authorities of the University on October 12th.

Dr Karolina Słowik from the NCU Institute of Physics worked on creating the world's first integrated photonic quantum circuit. The result of the research was published in the prestigious journal "Nature Photonics".

NCU started the academic year 2016/2017. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Higher Education, Jaroslaw Gowin, was a special guest of the inauguration ceremony. During the ceremony Prof. Konrad Koerner, a prominent German linguist was  awarded with the honorary doctorate honoris causa.

The NCU campus in Toruń has just become richer thanks to 140 international students coming within Erasmus+ programme.

The Nicolaus Copernicus University appeared in the prestigious the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016-2017 for the first time. In the list published on September 22, there  are only nine out of nearly 450 Polish universities.

Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń is the second Polish university in the latest Google Scholar Citations ranking developed by Cybermetrics Lab, a Spanish research institution preparing the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities.

Nicolaus Copernicus University is the fifth university and tenth higher education school in Poland according to the latest Ranking of Higher Education Schools published by “Perspektywy".

The NCU appeared in the prestigious international ranking, the CWTS Leiden Ranking, which examines scientific strength of the university on the basis of scientific publications and their impact upon research development around the world.

The international team of astronomers led by prof. Andrzej Niedzielski from the NCU Centre for Astronomy has discovered a very exotic planet, so-called hot Jupiter, at a very old star, almost twice as massive as the Sun. This is the twentieth planetary system discovered by astronomers from the NCU.

A group of astronomers from the NCU Centre for Astronomy recorded an unknown phenomenon of alternating emission of radio waves by molecules of methanol and water vapor around a young star.

Nearly 150 events in 40 disciplines make up the programme of the 16th Torunian Science and Arts Festival which will last from 22nd-26th April 2016. Food is the leading theme of the Festival. In this way the organisers relate to the 2016 International Year of Pulses which was declared by the 68th UN General Assembly.

On 23rd March six Vice-Rectors were elected to cooperate with Prof. Andrzej Tretyn, Rector Magificus for the term 2016-2020.

A photography contest "#MyNCU" starts on 1 March 2016 for overseas students studying at the NCU. The prizes include invitations to cultural and sports events in Toruń and several gadgets.

On 19th February 2016 the Nicolaus Copernicus University celebrated the anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus. On this day the title of Doctor Honoris Causa, Convallaria Copernicana and state and university distinctions were awarded. The great celebration began with the University Concert on February 18th.

Among 15 Polish scientists who have contributed to the first direct observation of gravitational waves, there was also a researcher from the Nicolaus Copernicus University Centre for Astronomy.

Dr Katharina Boguslawski, a researcher for the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Informatics obtained the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship. This is a very prestigious achievement for researchers awarded by the European Commission and financed within the Horizon 2020 programme.

NCU is the third Polish university in the latest ranking of the TOP 1200 Universities according to the Google Scholar Citations criterion

The NCU Faculty of Chemistry began cooperating with the European Space Agency (ESA) on the measurement of pollutants coming from the satellites. The project began in December 2015, and will last 6 months.

The Erasmus Day was organised in the University Main Library on 25th November 2015.

The researchers from Toruń gained 4 gold and 2 silver medals during the 64th World Exhibition of Inventions, Research and New Technologies INNOVA 2015 in Brussels. Four NCU inventions were submitted to the main contest Eureka Competition among over 300 technologies from all over the world.

On 22nd and 23rd November the Nicolaus Copernicus University was visited by a group of the delegates from the Beijing Union University. On 23rd October the NCU Vice-Rector for Economy and Development, Prof. Danuta Dziawgo visited Beijing.

On 12 November 2015 Prof. Andrzej Tretyn, NCU Rector, Józef Szyłejko, President of the Society of the Friends of Vilnius and the Vilnius Region, Michał Zaleski, Mayor of the City of Toruń, and Marcin Czyżniewski, Chariman of the Board of the City of Toruń unveiled a plaque commemorating the arrival of the professors from the Stefan Batory University in Vilnius.

The NCU Centre for Technology Transfer (Centrum Transferu Technologii UMK spółka z o.o.) gathers 13 partnerships preparing amazing products from different disciplines: environmental protection, biotechnology, cognitive science, nanotechnology, computer science, chemical technology, and medicine.

The Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus University, prof. Andrzej Tretyn and the Rector of the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca signed cooperation agreement on 13th October 2015.

The Sejm appointed Prof. Andrzej Sokala Justice of the Constitutional Tribunal. He will replace Teresa Liszcz whose office term ends on 8th December 2015 r.

The 2015/2016 academic year has just begun in the Nicolaus Copernicus University. The Senate laid flowers at the Nicolaus Copernicus Monument. The main celebrations were held in the University Main Lecture Hall Aula. The inaugurating lecture Genetics and Ethnos - Reflections on the Origin of Identity was read by Prof. dr habil. Tomasz Grzybowski from the Faculty of Medicine (NCU Collegium Medicum).

Young researchers from the Nicolaus Copernicus University succeeded in gaining funds from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Two researchers were selected in the Mobility Plus programme, and five doctors received grants dedicated to outstanding young researchers.

The first optical atomic clock in Poland has just been constructed in the National Laboratory of Atomic Molecular and Optical Physics at the Institute of Physics. This is a super precise standard of frequency which can synchronise the most accurate clocks.

On 19th February 2015 the Nicolaus Copernicus University celebrated the 70th anniversary of its founding. The celebrations had a unique character.

Adaptation workshops for foreign students studying at the NCU on a full-time basis were organised by the Admissions and Students Affairs Office (in cooperation with Foundation 'Ocalenie') on 29-30 January 2015.

University students, employees, alumni, are all invited to attend 7 dancing nights to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Nicolaus Copernicus University organised by the Radio Sfera and the Od Nowa Club. The first dancing night in the style of the 1940's has already taken place. The next dance in the style of the 1950s will take place on Friday, 20th February.

A team of the NCU researchers will receive 250 thousand euro for the creation of a unique research infrastructure (as well as an e-infrastructure) for the restoration/conservation, interpretation and management of cultural heritage.

Before Christmas the NCU students are engaged in organising several charity events.

Can we see infrared light? Up to date people have believed that the human eye is able to detect only a small portion of the electromagnetic wave spectrum, which is commonly known as a visible light. Polish scientists from the Nicolaus Copernicus University led by prof. Wojtkowski observed that other wavelengths, like infrared, could also be perceived by our eyes.

It has been 10 years since the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń merged with the Medical University in Bydgoszcz, and the Ludwig Rydygier Collegium Medicum was established. To celebrate this anniversary a special meeting of the NCU Senate will take place in Bydgoszcz.

On 14th November 2014 a group of students visiting our University within the Erasmus+ programme met with pupils from the junior secondary school no. 18 in Toruń.

The rowers from the Nicolaus Copernicus University did a great job in the 50th Head of the Charles Regatta (18th-19th October) just under the walls of Harvard University. They are the first Polish crew to have competed in that prestigious race.

It was the first time the Polish crew was competing in the prestigious Head Of The Charles River Regatta (HOCR) just under the walls of Harvard University on 18th-19th October 2014. Poland was represented by the rowers from the Nicolaus Copernicus University.

The official inauguration of the academic year 2014/2015 took place on Wednesday, 1st October at 11.00 a.m. in the biggest university lecture hall - the University Aula.
