Students with health problems

Living with some illnesses, allergies or with disabilities does not prevent you from experiencing international studies and travel.
The Nicolaus Copernicus University attempts at facilitating the Erasmus exchange students with disabilities or permanent illnesses.

Steps to follow:

  • First, you need to be qualified for an Erasmus exchange at our university.
  • Second, inform us of your special needs as soon as possible, e.g. your allergies, special rooms in the student dormitory (accessible for a wheelchair), some special study materials (for people with vision problems), necessary visits at the specialists in Poland, personal care assistants, sign language interpreters, or special transport.
  • Knowing your needs, the Erasmus+ Office looks for ways to meet them, e.g. by checking the accessibility of NCU buildings (in case of people with a motor disability), or by checking the scope of our disability services. We also ask for the approval of the faculty coordinator.
  • Do not forget to apply at your home university for a special Erasmus grant for students with disabilities.
  • Then, send a letter from your doctor on letterhead, explaining your needs for any medical devices and medications (translated into Polish by a sworn translator).
  • Bring your medical documentation translated into Polish.
  • In case of taking some medicines regularly, check at your doctor’s at home the availability of your pills in Poland or bring a sufficient supply with you.
  • If you need to use special medical devices, please remember about the fact that we use 230 Volt electricity in Poland (sometimes you may need a “converter” or a “transformer”).
  • Finally, bring an adequate health and accident insurance.
