FEES

Accommodation in a university hotel and lunches in a university canteen will be provided. Participants have to cover the cost of accommodation and lunches with Erasmus+ funding.

TARGET GROUP

Full-time students in the second or third year of the first-cycle (bachelor) degree programmes of Law or Business, or students of other programmes, interested to develop business and legal English skills and knowledge as well as practical aspects of entrepreneurship. A minimum B2 level of English language competence is required (CEFR). Applicants will have to take a language competency test provided by the coordinating institution in the process of recruitment.

STUDY CREDITS (ECTS)

Successful completion of the course can be awarded with 3 credits according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Credits will be awarded on the basis of participation in class, completing a vocabulary test after virtual component, and preparing a business pitch presentation and writing a business agrement after a physical component. Transcript of records will be issued by the coordinating institution. In order to include the credits in the curriculum at the home institution, participants need a learning agreement with the responsible person at the home institution.

ON-LINE LEARNING ENVIROMENT

The online component of the course will be hosted via MS Teams, the collaborative online learning platform of the Nicolaus Copernicus University. Participants need to have a stable internet connection, a computer, a headset, and a webcam. Sessions will be held synchronously (‘live’) in the CEST time zone.

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

The main aim of the course is to develop legal and business English communication skills and foster student collaboration and teamwork in international context. Students will get familiar with the business and legal aspects of establishing start-ups in different countries and in international teams will invent their own business idea.

The overall workload is 90 hours.Students will be required to attend 30 hours of online synchronous sessions, which will be followed by 30 physical hours, held at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (Poland). Another 30 hours is planned for self-study, using materials on the ‘Moodle’, an online learning platform of the Nicolaus Copernicus University.

In order to successfully complete the course students will have to: participate actively in classes, do assignments on the ‘Moodle’ platform, take a vocabulary test after virtual component, and during physical component, in their teams, prepare a business pitch presentation and write a business agreement.

DEATILED COURSE CONTENT

8 March – 7 June 2023: online module

An on-line module will focus on introducing the theoretical framework of a business idea, and integrating it with language learning. Students will become acquainted with different business cultures, learn about the challenges of sustainable development, and familiarize themselves with the business and legal aspects of setting up a company in different countries. They will develop communication skills and expand the range of vocabulary from the area of entrepreneurship, market research, and international corporate law in EU context.

Classes will require pre-class preparation and there will also be follow-up assignments. Students will become familiar with the issues to be discussed a week before each class, and they will be provided with a vocabulary list to enhance their competence in the classroom. All learning resources will be available on the NCU ‘Moodle’ platform. Synchronous sessions will be held on the NCU MS Teams platform. The virtual component is aimed at preparing students for practical, workshop-format classes that will follow in a physical module.

24 July – 28 July 2023: physical module at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń

During physical component students in international teams will learn how to pitch their business idea, negotiate cooperation with partners and write a business agreement. The on-campus module will take the format of plenary sessions and group workshop sessions aimed at developing practical skills. In their international teams, students will deliver a presentation to potential investors or partners and write a business agreement.
