Description (field, expectations, comments): The competition is open to persons who meet the conditions set out in Article 113 of the Act of 20 July 2018 - Law on higher education and science (Journal of Laws of 2018, item 1668) and the following qualification criteria:
1. Possession of a Master’s degree in history.
2. Possession of a doctoral degree in the humanities in the discipline of history.
3. Research output in the field of Church history in the medieval and early modern periods, with particular emphasis on the Baltic Sea region, including the Teutonic Order and Royal Prussia.
4. Experience in carrying out research projects related to the history of the Church in the medieval and early modern periods, including projects involving the editing of historical sources in this field, as well as experience in teaching German neography, the editing of historical sources and source studies.
5. A documented academic record in Poland and internationally in the field of research into the history of the Church in the medieval and early modern periods, with particular emphasis on the Baltic Sea region, including the Teutonic Order and Royal Prussia, supported by documented international collaboration.
6. Fluency in spoken and written Polish.
7. Knowledge of English, German and Latin.

Additional information: Documents should be submitted before 30.04.2026 The contest will be adjudicated no later than 31.08.2026 Your expected employment will commence on 01.10.2026 The university does not provide accommodation. Competition procedure: stage 1: qualification of candidates based on submitted documents stage 2: qualifying interview with selected candidates Proposed scope of duties: 1. Delivering teaching on the degree programmes in History, Scandinavian and Baltic Studies, and Archival Science and Records Management, for a number of hours commensurate with the position held. 2. Carrying out research projects on the history of the Church in the medieval and early modern periods, with particular emphasis on the Baltic Sea region, including the Teutonic Order and Royal Prussia, and securing external funding for this purpose. 3. Establishing cooperation with research institutions and researchers from Germany, Central and Eastern Europe and the Scandinavian countries; undertaking publishing initiatives. 4. Participation in publishing projects and initiatives carried out within the Department of Early Modern History and Source Editing, as well as organisational activities of the Institute of History and Archival Studies at Nicolaus Copernicus University and the Faculty of Historical Sciences at Nicolaus Copernicus University.

Please be informed that the person selected through the competition will be obliged to submit a certificate from the National Criminal Register with regard to offences specified in Chapters 19 and 25 of the Penal Code (including offences against sexual freedom and morality), in Article 189a and Article 207 of the Penal Code and in the Act on Counteracting Drug Addiction of 29 July 2005 (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 1939 and of 2022, item 2600), or for the corresponding offences defined in foreign law. The obligation to verify applies to a person whose tasks will be related to the protected activity referred to in Article 21. of the Act of 13 May 2016 on counteracting the threat of sexual offences and the protection of minors (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 560).
