Vice-Rectors’ Letter to Students

2020-09-28

Dear Students,

We hope that you are doing well, despite the special situation in Poland and worldwide. We hope that in the coming days you will arrive safely in Bydgoszcz and Toruń, where we will start the new academic year together.

We assure you that the university will be open and accessible to you as much as possible in the new academic year. However, we cannot overlook safety issues that are important to you, the entire academic community, and the inhabitants of the cities in which we operate, but also your relatives and you loved ones. In the following, we describe some of the most important topics that we believe are of key importance to the organization of your studies in the coming academic year.

Courses and classes

We would like to draw your attention to the changes in the mode of classes, in accordance with the Rector's announcement of the of August 28th and the Order on the organization of education of September 8th. The websites of your faculties and doctoral schools contain information about classes that will be conducted in a stationary form and schedules of all classes of a given course. We would also like to draw your attention to the need to register for university-wide classes, foreign language classes and physical education:

  • Foreign language classes will be conducted only in a distant mode, please register for them according to the instructions in Toruń or Bydgoszcz.
  • Students will be able to choose the mode of physical education classes (distant or contact).
  • On September 28th, the registration for the university-wide classes will begin, and the lectures will be held in a distant mode.

You will find information about the office hours of University lecturers on the websites of the faculties, together with an indication of whether they will take place in a traditional or distant form.

We recommend that students who are starting their studies set up an account on the NCU central server as soon as possible. Thanks to it you will be able to create an account on the Office 365 platform, necessary to participate in distant classes conducted with the use of MS Teams. Detailed information on this subject and on other tools of distance learning at the Nicolaus Copernicus University can be found on the website of the University Centre for IT services. At the beginning of the academic year there will be training courses dedicated to students.

Student Houses

We would like to remind you that the accommodation in the student houses has been limited to 2 people in one room, and there is a complete ban on visits. Since, for sanitary reasons, accommodation in Student Houses is provided by prior arrangement with the SH administration, the Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus University decided not to charge a fee for the period from September 28th to 30th.

General safety rules

We would like to draw your attention to the need to observe the rules of sanitary safety, described in the annex to the Order of the NCU Rector. In particular, we ask you to use masks or other protective measures indicated in the Order, observe the principles of social distancing and hygiene.

Dear Students,

The upcoming academic year will be a big challenge for all of us, which we will not be able to handle without your commitment and support, especially in terms of safety. We believe that with the joint effort of academic teachers and students, we are able to preserve the university as a place and community open to all of us, safe and providing education at the highest level.
