OUR WORK
The British Council started its work in Poland in 1938, and has worked
from its building at Aleje Jerozolimskie in Warsaw since 1948.
It is the UK's agency for cultural and educational relations and has
a special responsibility to support the teaching and learning of the English
language.
The Council's programme in Poland is one of the largest and includes:
- working with the Ministry of National Education in support of the teachers' training and teaching of English;
- supporting the development of 9 university language centres based in key Polish universities;
- the teaching of English, with its own native - speaker teachers, at its centres in Warsaw and Krakow;
- offering throughout Poland a wide range of British examinations;
- providing information about opportunities to study and learn English in Britain;
- on behalf of the British Tourist Authority, information for travellers to Britain through Visit UK Centre;
- an ambitious programme in culture and the arts;
- with the Polish Science Foundation (KBN), a Joint Research Programme, especially in the early stages of projects likely to qualify under the European Union's Framework V programme;
- libraries in Warsaw and, in collaboration with the universities, in 10 university cities;
- providing information about sources of support for schook and youth exchanges;
- providing information and support for British exporters in the field of education.
In all its works the Council cooperates closely with a wide range of individuals,
