Survival Guide for Visitors - Orientation Week

We recommend that all ERASMUS students participate in the Orientation Week which starts at the beginning of each semester, in October and mid-February. The programme of this week is varied. It usually starts with a sightseeing tour of Toruń on Sunday.  On Monday you have a chance to experience your first lesson of Polish! You meet the Head of the Centre of Polish Language and Culture for Foreigners and are divided into groups as you are going to have intensive course of Polish (2 hours a day) during this week. Once the intensive course is finished, all the students interested can join regular groups (2 hours twice a week).

During the next few days international students are invited for a short walk around campus when they have a chance to get to know the neighbourhood with all the nearby shops and a vegetable market. You also visit a University Library and have a library training as the library system varies in every country. The students have a chance to attend a lecture dealing with a short history of Poland as well as a presentation titled "Poland seen by a foreigner". Moreover, you may attend either a formal ceremony of the inauguration of the academic year (in October) or the celebrations of the university holiday (19th of February - the birthday of our patron). We do not forget about down-to-earth matters such as allocation of e-mail addresses or... an evening tour around pubs with students' mentors and their friends. This is definitely a good opportunity to socialise all together.
The first week of your stay at NCU is also a great chance to contact and meet your faculty coordinators.
Students participating in the Orientation Programme may obtain 2 ECTS (1 ECTS for Polish course, 1 ECTS for attending meetings, lectures and social events). A special certificate will be issued by the IPO confirming your participation in the Orienation Week and obtaining 2 ECTS.
